Burundi, Bujumbura – During the press release this morning of August 21st, 2017, Gaspard Baratuza, spokesman of Burundi army stated: “BURUNDI is ready to host the 11th edition of the East African Community military games and cultural events from August 24th to September 6th, 2017.” He also reminded that the main objective of these events is to strengthen the friendship among the different military of the East African community.

To the question of security during these events, the spokesman of the Burundi army assured that the security and safety of all participants and the public watching the games will be well maintained. He also asserted that the Ministry of National Defense allocated a budget and resources for the events.

RWANDA will not participate in the events, as BURUNDI did when the same events were organized and held in Rwanda. The spokesman of the Burundi army confirmed that Rwanda will not take part in these events because of the diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

Military delegations from TANZANIA, KENYA, UGANDA and SOUTH SUDAN are expected to arrive on August 24th, 2017 in Burundi for these events. The opening ceremonies will be on August 26th, 2017 at the Prince Louis Rwagasore stadium at nine o’clock. Admission will be free.
